Day 26: Z is for Zoroastrianism

Today is bittersweet as it’s the last day for the Blogging A to Z Challenge😥

I started the challenge with Religion and I’m ending with Religion. Quite Apropos, I think considering that Revelations 22:13 says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last” (King James Version).

The challenge began with Lillian’s (Hopes and DreamsAntediluvian: (1) of or belonging to the period before the Flood. Gen. 7, 8; and it’s ending with Arlee (Lee) Bird’s (Tossing it Out) Zoroastrianism.

Zoroastrianism is an ancient monotheistic religion founded by the prophet Zoroaster approximately 3500 years ago in Iran. It was the most powerful religion in the world and the principle religion of ancient Persia for 1000 years (600 BC to 650 AC). Now it is one of the world’s least practiced religion with about 190,000 believers.

As with Christianity, those that practice Zorastrianism believe in one God called Ahura Mazda. He is compassionate, just, and is the creator of the universe. They believe that Ahura Mazda is

  • Omniscient (knows everything)
  • Omnipotent (all powerful)
  • Omnipresent (is everywhere)
  • Unchanging
  • The Creator of life
  • The Source of all goodness and happiness

I would not do Zoroastrianism any justice if I tried to summarize the summary. As a Christian, other religions aren’t talked about, which is something I disagree with because there are many religions out there that are monotheistic and have the same driving principles as Christianity. I think if we knew more about other religions we would have a greater understanding and tolerance of other peoples.

  1. You did well. Thanks for bringing this to my attention with your tweet. I had no idea what this religion is about and now you’ve enlightened me. I agree about learning more about other religions.

Congratulations on making it to the end of the alphabet!
